BETTER! vs Razuna

No AI vs agent-operated.

Humans set the strategy. Agents do the work. Razuna stores your assets. It doesn't understand them — there's no built-in AI doing the cataloging, and the open-source promise is now an archived repo. BETTER! was built agentic from the first commit: agents that describe and enrich every asset on arrival, a library you run by talking to it, and a native MCP server your own agents can drive. You define the taxonomy, the brand voice, the naming and approval rules; agents apply them at scale. Intelligence isn't a feature here. It's the foundation.

The Problem

A file cabinet with no intelligence

An agentic DAM isn't a place where files sit. It's a system where AI agents understand, organize, retrieve, and act on your assets — under your team's direction. Razuna is the opposite: it stores files and doesn't understand them. There's no built-in AI to write titles, apply keywords, draft descriptions, or organize what lands — every asset is a manual job. In an era where the work can do itself, that's the gap that matters most. No autonomous ingestion, no conversational control, no agents, no model choice. Just a place to put things.

The open-source promise is gone, too. Razuna's open-source repository is archived as "legacy, no longer maintained." If you chose Razuna because it was open and self-hostable, that door has closed — the team has moved to a hosted product billed per terabyte.

And search — the one job a DAM can't fail at — is a known pain point. User reviews repeatedly call out weak search. When finding assets means remembering exact filenames, the tool isn't doing the thing it exists to do.

The Answer

Agentic from the first commit

The honest version: Razuna is a real, working storage product with a genuine hosted offering. BETTER! is an agentic product where the intelligence does the cataloging before you ask. Storing assets and understanding them are not the same job.

Honest Take

When Razuna makes sense

Razuna's hosted SaaS genuinely works for teams that want zero infrastructure and have small libraries. But if you want assets that catalog themselves on arrival, a library you manage by talking to it, search that finds by meaning, and the freedom to run any AI model — including offline — that's a different kind of product. There is a BETTER! option.
